Veneer
Exhibited Feb 2003, Nikon Summer Salon 2003, Centre for Contemporary Photography Melbourne. Winner – Best video/multimedia work.
Photos, box with lid, stand
I had just moved back to Melbourne after living in Adelaide for quite a while. Living in Brunswick I noticed an abundance of ‘brick veneer’ homes built by European migrants during the 70s & 80s. The work was inspired by the book White Nation: Fantasies of White Supremacy in a Multicultural Society (1994), by Ghassan Hage. The photos in the box included snippets from the original Australian national anthem ‘Advance Australia Fair’.
